Dear Sydney,
My name is Susan and I received the gift of your daughter’s kidney. Your letter was routed to me through UC Davis in Sacramento where I had my transplant at the age of sixty-eight. I hope that you are not disappointed that her kidney was not given to someone younger. I have four children, five grandchildren, and one great-granddaughter. I have had so much and feel greedy for wanting more time with my family when your daughter had so few years. I was on dialysis and getting discouraged as I was having a lot of trouble with my access for dialysis. I had numerous chest catheters and three surgeries in my arms to implant accesses. I was running out of options and so I was thrilled when they said that they had a kidney for me.
I am so deeply grateful for your daughter’s gift, and so is my family. How do I sufficiently say thank you for the gift of life? I looked at her photo on the website and teared up, she was so lovely. I would love to know more about her and your family. Please contact me if you would like.
In deepest gratitude,
Susan
